It’s common for Porsche 911 and 912 models to have different types of splines on the “lower” steering shaft. Typically, the 911 models produced before 1974 and the 912 should have fine splines, while later models generally have coarse splines. Please refer to the pictures below as a reference.

The Porsche 912 first introduced the electronic speedometer in 1969. The Porsche 911 adopted the electronic speedometer starting in 1972, with the 911 S model leading the way.
